Yahfoufi: 985 members

This family is named after Yahfouf, a town located in the Qada’a of Baalbeck, 80 km from Beirut, at an altitude of 1100 m above the sea level. Yahfouf is home to 1000 people all of whom are Shia’a.

The Yahfoufis belong to the Shia’a community and are mostly present in the Nahle town of Baalbeck. They account for 20% of its population.

Btaddini (Al-Btaddini): 556 members

This family name is inspired from the town of Beiteddine in the Qada’a of Shouf, which is situated 45 km from Beirut, at an altitude of 860 m above the sea level, with a predominantly Maronite population (80%). Beiteddine is home to 2580 people, of which 10% are Catholics and Greek Orthodox.

The Btaddinis belong to the Druze community and are distributed in:

This family name is derived from the town of Rasheen, which is situated in the Qada’a of Zgharta, 100 km from Beirut, at an altitude of 130 m above the sea level. Rasheen’s population is made up of a large Maronite community (85%) and Sunni and Greek Orthodox minorities. The town is home to 5360 people.

The Rasheenis are Shia’a settled in three main towns in the Qada’a of Hermel:

Arsouni: 20 members

The Arsouni family is named after Arsoun, a town located in the Qada’a of Baabda, 33 km from Beirut at an altitude of 750 m above the sea level.

Maronites constitute 30% of Arsoun’s population whereas Druze and Catholics make up 50% and 20% respectively.

The Arsouni family consists of 20 Maronite members settled in:

Bteghrini (Al-Bteghrini): 60 members

This family name is derived from the town of Bteghrin, which is situated in the Qada’a of Matn, 35 km from Beirut at an altitude of 930 m above the sea level. Of Bteghrin’s population, 70% are Greek Orthodox, 20% are Greek Catholic and 10% are Maronite. The town is home to 4850 people.

All of the Bteghrinis are Greel Orthodox settled in Saadnayel, Zahle.

Kahlouni: 35 members

The Kahloun family name is traced back to either the Shouf town of Kahlounieh, which is situated 48 km from Beirut, or to the town of Kahlounieh w Haret Hamza, which is located in the Qada’a of Baabda, 25 km from Beirut, at an altitude of 840 m above the sea level. Both towns are entirely Druze.

The Kahlounis belong to the Druze community as well and are present in Ain w Zain (8 members) and Ain Zhalta (25 members) in the Shouf area.

Akroumi: 30 members

The family is named after the Akroum town of Akkar, which is located 160 km from Beirut at 880m above the sea level. Akroum’s population consists of 2500 Sunni.

The Akroumis are also Sunni settled in the town of Meshti Hassan, Akkar.
