Lowering the voting age to 18

As parliamentary elections approach, Lebanese political forces reconsider following other countries and lowering voting age from 21 to 18 to enhance youth participation in political decision-making. This demand collides with the sectarian issue. In fact, if voting age is reduced to 18 in the 2022 elections, the number of voters will rise by 280,000, of whom 180,000 will be Muslims and 100,000 Christians. This will cause further imbalances in the interest of Muslims, bringing the percentage of Muslim voters to 67% compared to 33% for Christians, thereby hindering youth participation.
