Higher education students in Lebanon

35% enrolled in the Lebanese University

Lebanon has only one public higher education institution, the Lebanese University (LU), in addition to 47 private institutions. The following table shows that in the 2015-2016 academic year, the number of higher education students was 199,678, of which 72,518 or 36.3% were enrolled in the LU. It rose to 222,064 in the year 2019-2020, i.e. an increase of 22,385 students or 11.2%. While the number of LU students increased by 6,807 or 9.3%, the university’s share of students decreased to 35.7%.
