When compared to the same period of 2020, Lebanon recorded during the first quarter (January- February-March) of 2021 an increase in murders and robberies and a decline in suicides and road accidents.

Auto thefts: an increase of 8.8%

As shown in Table No. 1 below, reported auto thefts have increased by 8.8% during the first quarter of 2021, compared to the same period of 2020.

Robberies: an increase of 162%

Table No. 2 below shows that robberies have risen sharply by 162% during the same period, registering an average of 16 robberies per day.

Murders: an increase of 2.4%

As shown in Table No. 3 below, murders have remained almost stable during the first quarter of the year, registering an increase of only 2.4% (one murder).

Suicides: a decline of 22%

Despite the economic and living crisis that Lebanon has gone through, the number of suicides has dropped by 22%, decreasing from 41 cases last year to 32 currently, as illustrated in Table No. 4 below.

Road accidents: a decline of 2.2%

Road traffic has dropped dramatically as a result of COVID-19 lockdowns, economic stagnation and shutdowns of companies and institutions. This has been reflected in a decreased number of road accidents and injuries and an increased number of fatalities, as shown in Table No. 5 below.
