Robberies, murders, suicides and road accidents (August 2019-2020)

Lebanon sees a jump in robberies and murders and a decline in suicides and road accidents (2019-2020)

Security indicators such as auto thefts, robberies and murders have risen markedly in the first eight months of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, while suicides and road accidents have dropped slightly.  

Auto thefts: an increase of 123%

The number of stolen cars have increased by 123% during the period from January to August 2020, compared to the same period in 2019. As shown in Table No. 1 below, it has increased by 324% between August 2019-2020.

Robberies: an increase of 48%

Robberies have shown an increase of 48.4% during the first eight months of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. As shown in Table No. 2 below, robberies have increased by 116% between August 2019-2020.

Murders: an increase of 104%

The number of people killed during the first eight months of 2020 has increased by 104% compared to the same period of 2019. As shown in Table No. 3 below, it has increased by 400% between August 2019-2020.

Suicides: a decline of 21%

Suicides have declined by 21% during the first eight months of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. As shown in Table No. 4 below, the suicide rate has dropped by 56% between August 2019-2020.

Road accidents: a decline of 35.6%

Road accidents have declined by 35.6% during the first eight months of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. Table No. 5 below shows that fatalities and injuries have respectively decreased by 27.6% and 35.7%.
