Polling staff costs: From LBP 10 in 1960 to LBP 600,000 in 2018

Polling staff costs: From LBP 10 in 1960 to LBP 600,000 in 2018

The Lebanese government has determined the amount payable to the heads of polling stations and clerks entrusted with managing the voting and counting process in the 2018 parliamentary elections as follows:

- Head of polling station: LBP 635,000 versus LBP 15 in the 1960 elections.

- Clerk: LBP 605,000 versus LBP 10 in the 1960 elections.

This two-day cost is comparatively higher than that of 1960. It is a natural outcome of inflation, high wages, and the collapse of the Lebanese pound’s exchange rate.
