13,000 Blank Ballots in the 2009 Elections
Voters resort to a blank vote to express their rejection of the current political reality or the electoral law, or because they do not like any of the candidates. This kind of rejection is more important than an electoral boycott.
Blank ballots were not counted in the elections between independence and 2009. The following table shows that the number of blank ballots in the 2009 elections reached 13,024, i.e. 0.79% of all votes. The lowest ratio was in Zahle (0.2%) and the highest in Aley (1.69%).
