Confounding the Public and the Private
Matters get so mixed up for people sometimes, to the extent that the unusual becomes usual and the unnatural natural. Thus, exhaustive sagas and rigmaroles become necessary for what would otherwise be seen as self-evident. The road is a public utility that exists for a good reason. Infringing on the roads and their established setbacks or opening new roads to serve private rather than public interests upends all the reasons and goals for establishing this facility. The violations against public roads are too many to count, but three notable cases are worthy of mentioning:
1. The ancient Tell of Beirut- SOLIDERE
2. ABC- Achrafieh, Beirut
3. City Mall- Northern Entrance of Beirut
And listen to us wondering about the causes of traffic in Lebanon!
