1- Old relations by marriage
Sobhi Said Haidar (1884-1949): A former Shia’a MP and minister. He married Thurayya Haidar, sister of MP Ibrahim Asaad Haidar, who was nicknamed “the mighty of Beqa’a” because of his powerful personality.
Sami Solh (1887-1968): A former Sunni MP, minister and prime minister. He married Balqis Rida Solh, sister of the former Prime Minister Riadh Solh.
Bechara Khalil Khoury (1890-1964): A Maronite and a former President of the Republic, Bechara Khalil Khoury married Laure Shiha, sister of the politician and the forefather of the Lebanese Constitution Michel Shiha.
Adel Ousseiran (1901-1998): A Shia’a and a former MP, minister and Speaker of the House, Adel Ousseiran married Souad Ismail Khalil, sister of former minister and MP Kathem Khalil.
Sabri Hamadeh (1905-1976): A Shia’a and a former Speaker of the House, Sabri Hamadeh married Zainab El-Assaad, daughter of former Speaker of the House Kamel El-Assaad. Despite the marriage, the relationship between the two families was turbulent.
Pierre Amine Gemayyel (1905-1984): A Maronite and a former minister and MP, Pierre Gemayyel married Genevieve Gemayyel, sister of former minister and MP Maurice Gemayyel.
Ali Mustafa Badreddine (1909-1986): A former Shia’a MP, Ali Badreddine married Tawfiqa Amine Chahine, sister of former minister and MP Rafic Chahine.
Qahtan Chebli Hamadeh (1911- 1987): A former Druze MP, he married Salma Hamadeh, daughter of the former minister of economy Said Hamadeh.
Majid Erslan (1911-1982): A former Druze MP, he married Khawla Jumblatt, daughter of MP Rashid Daoud Jumblatt.
Charles Iskandar Helo (1913-2000): A Maronite and a president of the Lebanese republic between 1963 and 1970, Charles Iskandar Helo married Nina Trad, niece of president of the republic Petro Trad.
Kamal Fouad Jumblatt (1917-1977): A Druze and a former minister and MP, Kamal Jumblatt married May Chakib Erslan, one of the most significant Arab politicians and intellectuals.
Malek Salam (1917-2000): A former Sunni minister and the brother of Prime Minister Saeb Salam, Malek Salam married Najwa Abdul Hamid Karami, sister of prime ministers Rashid and Omar Karami. The marriage did not prevent occasional political disputes between the two families.
Rafic Amine Chahine (1925-2011): A former Shia’a minister and MP, Rafic Chahine married Zeina El-Ali (Sunni), daughter of former minister and MP Suleiman El-Ali.
René Mouawad (1925-1989): A Maronite and a former minister, MP and president of the republic, René Mouawad married Naila Issa Khoury, niece of the former MP Qabalan Issa Khoury.
Ghassan Tueini (1926-2012): A former Greek Orthodox minister and MP; he married Chadia El-Khazen (Maronite), sister of former minister Wadih El-Khazen.
Abdul Karim Youssef El-Zein (1927-1998): A former Shia’a MP, he married Salma Salam (Sunni), daughter of Mesbah Salam, the brother of PM Saeb Salam.
Pierre Henry Helou (1928-2003): A Maronite and a former minister and MP, Pierre married Madeleine Shiha, daughter of the writer, politician and forefather of the Lebanese Constitution Michel Shiha.
Abdullah El-Rassi (1929-1994): A Greek Orthodox and a former minister and MP, Abdullah married Sultana Frangieh (Maronite), daughter of the former president of the republic Suleiman Frangieh.
George Saadeh (1930-1998): A former Maronite minister and MP who married Layla Kessrouan el-Khazen.
George Fram (1934-2006): A former Maronite minister and MP who married Hayat Klim el-Khazen.
Khaled Rashid Jumblatt (1934-1992): A Druze who married Dalal Najib Jumblatt.
Majed Sabri Hamadeh (1945- 1994): A former Shia’a minister and the son of Speaker Sabri Hamadeh, Majed married Leila Solh, daughter of the late Prime Minister Riadh Solh.
