February 2 
 Owners of public trucks stage a protest at the Port of Beirut in condemnation of the filling of the Port’s fourth basin and urge the referral of the matter to the Cabinet. 
 Casino du Liban’s sacked employees suspend their protest and return to work after promises to reconsider their working conditions. 
 Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq chairs a security meeting in preparation to remove all political posters and banners from Beirut to Tripoli, starting Thursday.
 Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil refers an employee at the Liban Post Office in Burj Hammoud to the Financial Prosecutor on charges of embezzling public funds. 
 The Ministry of Public Health issues a list of food safety standards for food institutions.
 In a statement released by his office, Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq requests married couples whose civil marriages were registered with Lebanon’s public notary to settle their marriages at civil courts, stressing support for optional civil marriage. 

February 3 
 French envoy Jean François Girault holds meetings with Lebanese officials to discuss presidential elections.
 Hezbollah and the Future Movement hold their fifth dialogue session in Ain Tineh and condemn celebratory firing and also stress their commitment to the removal of political slogans and pictures.
 Families of the captives visit MP Walid Jumblat and give the government 24 hours to act before escalating their protest including the closure of the Casino du Liban.
 Grand Mufti Abdul Latif Deryan ends his visit to Egypt by meeting Egyptian President Abdul Fattah Sisi.
 Minister of Social Affairs Rashid Derbas states that the government has started to fall apart, stressing that the salvation is by returning to the voting mechanism.
 First Military Investigator Riad Abou Ghaida issues indictment over the attacks against Dahr El-Baidar and Tayyouneh convicting the Emir of the Al-Qaida-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades Sirajeddine Zureiqat and suspect Mahmoud Ahmad Abu Abbas. A Syrian national Ahmad Fayez Haidar carried out the Dahr El-Baidar attack. 
 Truck Owners Syndicate suspends its strike upon the request of Bkerki.

February 4 
 The Cabinet condemns the attack in Damascus against Lebanese pilgrims and the burning of Jordanian pilot and adjourns discussion on the points of contention such as civil marriage, the filling of the Port’s fourth basin and the municipalities’ share of telecom tax revenues. 
 French envoy Jean François Girault continues his visit to Lebanon and meets Fouad Seniora, Michel Aoun, Walid Jumblat and Hezbollah officials.
 Former PM Saad Hariri receives in Riyadh former Minister Faisal Karami who expresses his gratitude to Hariri for his condolences over the death of his father.
 “Lebanon’s crisis will not be solved except by implementing the Baabda Declaration,” says former President of the Republic Michel Suleiman in his speech at Beit Al-Mouhami, adding that those who boycotted the presidential elections should not extend their own term and the president is elected by a two-thirds majority vote and when this is not possible, by a simple majority. 
 The March 14 General Secretariat urges the summoning of Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon to seek clarification over the stance of Iran’s Higher Spiritual Leader, Ali Khamenei, who said he would send to Iraq, Syria and Lebanon special groups of Iranian youth to “fight beside the alliances against enemies.”

February 5 
 Ministry of Interior’s campaign ends by bringing down all political and religious signs and posters in Beirut, Saida and Tripoli. 
 Karantina’s fish market is shut down for failing to meet safety standards and vendors protest at the decision by blocking the road outside the market. 
 President of the Lebanese University, Dr. Adnan Sayyed Hussein, withdraws the appointment of Dr. Antoine Tannous as Director of the Lebanese University’s Business Faculty in the north following protests by the Future Movement and Al-Azm Wal Saadah who objected to his appointment on the grounds of his being a Christian belonging to the Marada movement. 
 In the English editorial of Al-Anbaa online newspaper, MP Walid Jumblat reveals that he sheltered the renowned Swedish spy Stig Bergling and his wife for four years (1990-1994) at his residence in Mukhtara upon the request of the Soviet intelligence. Jumblat says he could not turn down the request from the Soviets because they provided him with the equivalent of $500 million worth of weapons and ammunition from 1979 until the late 1980s for free, trained the militia of the Progressive Socialist Party and offered the Party hundreds of scholarships. The couple was given residence on the second floor of the house of the former MP Nehme Tohme.
 PM Tammam Salam heads for Germany to participate in the Munich Security Conference. 

February 6 
 The Justice Council sentences 12 people belonging to Fatah Al-Islam to death.
 The Army Intelligence raids the Zaatariyeh neighborhood in Al-Fanar in search of the wanted fugitive Mourad Zaiter who dies in the shootout. The accident prompts the Zaiter family to fire weapons into the air. 
 During his presence at the Munich Security Conference, PM Tammam Salam highlights the burden that the Syrian crisis has placed on Lebanon and meets the Qatari and Bahraini foreign ministers as well as the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister.
 A delegation of Hezbollah headed by Mahmoud Qmati visits the Free Patriotic Movement leader, MP Michel Aoun, at his residence in Rabieh and renews holding on to the 2006 Understanding Document between the two sides
 General Security Chief Major General Abbas Ibrahim inspects the General Security’s headquarters in Naqoura and extends condolences to the UNIFIL over the death of the Spanish soldier, reiterating Lebanon’s commitment to the 1701 Resolution. Major General Abbas Ibrahim also visits MP Bahiya Hariri in Saida. 

February 7 
 MP Khaled Daher announces at Tripoli’s Allah Square his objection to taking down the Islamic signs in the city unless ‘the Christ the King statue and the pictures of some saints who are opening their arms wide’ are removed first from Jounieh. Islamic dignitaries from varied political currents participate in the protest.

February 8 
 PM Tammam Salam returns to Lebanon after having met in Munich Iran’s Foreign Minister and sought his assistance in facilitating the election of a president as well as France’s Foreign Minister who promised that the first batch of the Saudi-funded weapons shall be handed over to Lebanon in early April. 
 MP Walid Jumblat calls for pulling the presidential election out from the narrow Christian context to the larger national context. 
 US Ambassador to Lebanon, David Hale, hands the Lebanese Army a donation worth USD 25 million covering artilleries, ammunitions and vehicles to help the Army fight terrorism.

February 9 
 PM Tammam Salam and a number of ministers and MPs attend the mass held at the Saint Maron Church in Gemmayzeh on Saint Maron’s Day and Bishop Youness Matar reiterates the need to elect a president and not to tie the election to external conflicts.
 MP Khaled Daher says in a press conference that his words were taken out of context and that he did not call for the removal of Christian crosses and statues for he is against removing all religious signs, both Muslim and Christian.
 MPs from both March 8 and March 14 camps deplore the statement of Khaled Daher.
 Maronite Patriarch al-Rai meets the French envoy to Lebanon Jean François Girault in Vatican where they discuss the issue of presidential election. 

February 10 
 In his testimony before the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, Rafik Hariri’s aide Abdul Latif Shamma’a says that Hariri used to appreciate Nasrallah for sacrificing his own son and that he wanted to broker an understanding with Syria, not to confront it. Shama’a adds that Assad informed Hariri that he shall decide who Lebanon’s president would be. 
 A statement issued by speaker Nabih Berri brands the allegations over the death of Imam Moussa Sadr as false fabrications and denies that DNA tests have identified a dead body thought to be that of Imam Sadr.
 A storm called Johan hits Lebanon bringing wind speed up to 100 kilometers per hour. 
 Saudi ambassador to Lebanon shakes hands with Hezbollah’s deputy chief Sheikh Naim Qassem during the Iranian National Day ceremony.

February 11 
 MP Khaled Daher withdraws his membership from the Future Movement and the latter accepts the withdrawal reiterating commitment to coexistence and moderation.
 PM Tammam Salam launches a strategy for rural tourism and urges the reinforcement of the Lebanese regime by the election of a new president.
 Accompanied by a security delegation, Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq heads for Jordan where he meets the Jordanian King Abdullah.
 Rafik Hariri’s aide Abdul Latif Shamma’a continues his STL testimony and reveals that Rafik Hariri delegated him to pay monthly amounts ranging between USD 55,000 and USD 67,000 to Rustom Ghazali. He kept on paying these amounts, which totaled roughly USD 10.5 million according to the calculation of the Judge, from 1993 until Ghazali’s assassination in 2005. Other payments were assigned to equip his house and buy him a car.
 Minister of Public Health and Minister of Labor agree to put the unified medical prescription form into force starting on March 1. The Lebanese Order of Physicians awaits the approval of the National Social Security Fund to start printing the prescriptions.
 Cabinet session sees a row between Ministers Boutros Harb and Minister Elias Bou Saab over the signing of decrees and Minister Rashid Derbas protests at the failure to appoint members for the administrative council of the economic zone of Tripoli, which drives PM Tammam Salam to adjourn the session indefinitely or until further discussions take place.
 The Lebanese Army dismantles 25 kilograms of explosives in Ersal.

February 13 
 Former PM Saad Hariri arrives in Beirut to participate in the 10th commemoration ceremony of his father.
Interior Minister Nouad Mashnouq checks the security plan in Brital noting that some suspects have left for Syria and cannot return.
 Delegated by MP Walid Jumblat, Minister of Public Health Wael Bou Faour visits General Michel Aoun.

February 14 
 Former PM Saad Hariri delivers a speech in the ceremony held in BIEL on the 10th anniversary of the assassination of Rafik Hariri, lashing out at each of Syria, Iran and Hezbollah, yet holding on to dialogue with the latter. Hariri reiterates support for the Lebanese government and urges speedy election of a president.
 Minister of Justice calls on the General Prosecutor to arrest those who opened celebratory gunfire after Hariri’s speech.
 Speaker Nabih Berri and PM Tammam Salam discuss a new mechanism for governmental work, particularly with respect to the signing of all 24 ministers on the decrees.


 Former PM Saad Hariri hosts dinner at Beit al-Wasat in the presence of LF leader Samir Geagea and his wife and Dr. Ghattas Khoury.

February 15
 Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah urges his supporters to refrain from shooting in the air after his speech tomorrow.
 A drone coming from Lebanon penetrates the Israeli airspace and, according to estimates, ends up going down in Dair Mimas.
 “I will not call on Cabinet to convene before accord on mechanism,” says PM Tammam Salam to As-Safir.

February 16 
 In his speech during the annual commemoration of Hezbollah’s martyrs, Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah applauds Hariri’s call for a national strategy to fight terrorism and reiterates dialogue with the Future Movement. Nasrallah urges all those demanding his party’s retreat from Syria to join the battle in Syria and Iraq against ISIS. Contrary to the usual celebratory fire, supporters release yellow helium balloons as Nasrallah delivered his speech. 
 Former PM Saad Hariri chairs the Future Movement politburo’s meeting and reiterates the state’s responsibility in fighting terrorism.
 Failure to pay the salaries of employees at the Rafik Hariri University Hospital prompts the employees to close the entrance to the emergency ward in protest.
 Minister of Justice Ashraf Rifi reveals that he foiled an attempt to kill former Minister Michel Samaha on his way to the hospital because he had information implicating Syria in alleged plans to carry out attacks in Lebanon. 

February 17 
 Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun announces that he is withdrawing confidence from Defense Minister Samir Moqbel after the extension of the term of Higher Defense Council Chief Mohammed Khair and Brigadier General Edmont Fadel. In response, Moqbel assures that the extension falls within his jurisdiction.
 Former PM Saad Hariri receives MP Walid Jumblat and his son Taymour in Bait Al-Wasta in the presence of Nader Hariri. Hariri also holds meetings with a number of ambassadors and chairs the meeting of the Future Bloc. 
 Telecoms Minister Boutros Harb says after meeting PM Tammam Salam that there won’t be a Cabinet session amidst lack of accord over a mechanism for governmental work. 
 “Don’t wash your dirty linen in public,” says Minister Ashraf Rifi in response to Nasrallah. 
 The family of Michel Samaha denies the death plot reported by Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi branding his statement an attempt to prevent the release of Samaha.

February 18 
 Sixth dialogue session between Hezbollah and the Future Movement tackles the national strategy to combat terrorism, the issue of celebratory gunfire and a positive appraisal of the security plan in northern Beqa’a.
 Speaker Nabih Berri adjourns the session scheduled to elect a president until March 11 due to lack of quorum. 
 In an interview with As-Safir, Army Commander Jean Qahwaji addresses General Michel Aoun saying “your problem is not with me.”
 Former PM Saad Hariri receives General Michel Aoun accompanied by Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil at Bayt El-Wasat in the presence of former MP Ghattas Khoury and hosts a dinner for his guests.
 The Lebanese General Security arrests Sheikh Bilal after his deportation from Turkey and hands him over to the Lebanese Army on different charges including hiding a cache of weapons at his house. 
 Speaker Nabih Berri urges PM Tammam Salam to call for an extraordinary Cabinet session and voices his concern over the paralysis of constitutional institutions as transpired from Wednesday’s gathering. 
 The Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea wishes General Michel Aoun a Happy Birthday and Aoun thanks him. 
 Grand Mufti Abdul Latif Deryan requests the Minister of Justice to mobilize the Office of the Public Prosecutor against director Charbel Khalil for publishing a photo that allegedly defames Islam and incites religious strife. 
February 19 
 A heavy snow storm hits Lebanon with snow falling on 500 meters above the sea level.
 The Special Tribunal for Lebanon announces the election of Judge Ivana Hrdličková of the Czech Republic as successor to President Judge Sir David Baragwanath of New Zealand. Judge Ralph Riachy of Lebanon has been re-elected as Vice-President.
 Former PM Saad Hariri receives Arab ambassadors to Lebanon in his Bayt Al-Wasat residence and notes that the election of a president is the right prelude to the implementation of an anti-terrorism strategy through the Lebanese Army. Hariri also meets a delegation of security leaders and another of governors. 
 Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rai returns from Rome and announces that both Aoun and Geagea are under the Bkerki umbrella.

February 20 
 Speaker Nabih Berri receives former PM Saad Hariri accompanied by Nader Hariri at his residence in Ain Tineh in the presence of Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil. 
 Delegated by General Michel Aoun, MP Ibrahim Kanaan visits LF leader Samir Geagea in his residence in Meerab and the two hold a two-hour meeting in the presence of MP Strida Geagea and Melhem Riachi.  
 The monthly statement of Maronite Bishops calls for disassociating Lebanon from regional axes and holding presidential elections as soon as possible.
 Former PM Saad Hariri continues his meetings in Beirut and receives the Grand Mufti, Bishop Boulos Matar representing Patriarch al-Rai and a Press Syndicate delegation.
 MP Walid Jumblat attends the Druze Council meeting chaired by Shaikh Al-Akl Naim Hassan and reiterates support for amicable relationships with Saudi Arabia and of a swap operation to release the captives.
 Major General Rustom Ghazali announces through al-Entishar website that he will start writing his memoirs of Lebanon from 1977 to 2005. 

February 21 
 Public Health Minister Wael Bou Faour announces that his ministry has terminated its contract with Hotel Dieu Hospital after the hospital refused to admit disabled patient Laurice Khalil. The hospital’s management responds arguing that they did not turn Laurice down but delayed the surgery since the patient was not deemed to be in urgent need of the operation and arrangements had to be made in coordination with the physicians’ schedules and the availability of rooms.
 PM Saad Hariri says before a delegation of economic committees that the dialogue with Hezbollah aims to provide the minimal political and security stability. 

February 22
 Patriarch al-Rai urges the creation of mechanisms that do not contradict the Constitution and calls for the election of a President today, not tomorrow. 
 Speaker Nabih Berri quoted to have described the meeting with Hariri as excellent.

February 23 
 Former PM Saad Hariri visits PM Tammam Salam at the Grand Serail, receives a delegation of the families of the captives as well as former President Amine Gemayel and his son Sami.
 The Internal Security Forces’ Drug Control Office thwarts drug smuggling attempt to Cyprus. The attempt included 1.8 tons of drugs.
 Investigative Judge Nada Asmar listens to the testimony of director Charbel Khalil in the lawsuit filed against him by the Grand Mufti and refers the case to the Public Prosecutor after releasing Khalil with a proof of residency.
 Former President Amine Gemayel visits Patriarch al-Rai in Bkerki and announces that there can not be legislation in the absence of a President.

February 24 
 Lebanon launches a USD 2.2 billion sovereign Eurobond, the largest single issue in the history of the country with an interest rate of 6.2% (10 year maturity) and 6.65%  for 15 year maturity, Finance Minister Ali Hasan Khalil  announces. 
 Former PM Saad Hariri receives a number of officials and dignitaries including US Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale and Sayyed Ali El-Amin. Hariri calls for standing by the Grand Mufti to advance the position of Dar El-Fatwa.
 The Future Bloc calls for halting the improvisation of constitutional norms that further the existing complication.
 The Change and Reform Bloc states after its meeting that governmental work must go on and refuses to look at the presence of a President or the lack thereof indifferently.

February 25 
 PM Tammam Salam says at the Arab Forum for Food Safety that the disruption of governmental work is the result of presidential void. 
 Speaker Nabih Berri urges the government to convene and to cling to the Constitution with respect to right to vote.
 Former PM Saad Hariri heads for Riyadh on a night flight. 
 Former President Amine Gemayel host the ministerial consultative meeting at his residence in Sin el-Fil in the presence of former President Michel Suleiman and seven ministers. Minister Michel Feraoun does not attend due to travel commitments and the statement at the end of the meeting supports the efforts of PM Tammam Salam towards a productive governmental structure. 

February 26 
 The Lebanese Army succeeds in capturing two hills in Ersal, thus dismissing the threat of radical militants. 
 Former Speaker Hussein al-Husseini proposes after meeting the former PM Slaim el-Hoss the election of a transitional president temporarily.
 MP Assem Qanso affirms that Major General Rustom Ghazali was injured by shrapnel as he joined fighting in his hometown Qarfa and is being treated in Damascus.
 Finance Minister calls on Customs to send back a shipment of cell phone covers from China after tests revealed that they were radioactive.
 The committee tasked with tackling the issue of the Casino du Liban’s sacked employees decides to reinstate 47 employees and fire the remaining 144. 
 A sit-in near the Embassy of France in Beirut calls for the release of George Abdalla from a French prison.

February 27 
 Minister of Defense Samir Moqbel, accompanied by Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji, inspects the outskirts of Ras Baalbeck where clashes between the Army and the militants erupted. 
 Former PM Salim El-Hoss addresses the Lebanese urging them to cling to the Taef Accord and to elect a President. El-Hoss says some have taken advantage of PM Tammam’s Salam national good will, which he expressed when he subjected the Cabinet’s decisions to consensus.
 Minister of Public Works and Transport vows to take all measures necessary to ensure the safety of the Freight Department at Beirut’s Airport, after EU airlines’ decision to stop transporting goods from Lebanon effective from March 1.
 Public Health Minister Wael Bou Faour warns of a withdrawal of license from the Mennieh Hospital if it fails to meet the safety standards in two months.

February 28 
 PM Tammam Salam proceeds with discussions towards convening a Cabinet session.
 Locals and civil society activists stage a protest in Tripoli  to denounce a proposal to build a large underground parking lot in the city’s historic Al-Tal square. The project, championed by the Future Movement and rejected by former PM Najib Mikati, was unanimously rejected by the municipal council during a vote earlier this month, but after suspected lobbying and pressure, the council voted on Friday in favor of the parking lot.
 An-Nusra Front has reportedly handed Sheikh Mostafa Houjeiry a list of the names of inmates that should be released in exchange of releasing the Lebanese Army captives.
 People rally near the ESCWA’s headquarters in Downtown Beirut in support of the Assyrians and condemn the massacres inflicted by ISIS on them in Syria. 
 The General Security celebrates the graduation of an additional 500 members.
