Mixed Marriages in Lebanon (2) : The North Mohafaza - 28 366 Marriages

The highest mixed marriage rates were registered in the Qada’a of Akkar and the lowest in Mennieh and Dennieh.

By sect, 4729 marriages occurred between two different Muslim sects, 18684 between two different Christian sects and 2262 between Muslims and Christians. The distribution of inter-religious marriages by Qada’a was as follows:

  • Akkar: 7181 marriages
  • Tripoli: 6502
  • Koura: 4618
  • Batroun: 4005
  • Zgharta: 2891
  • Bsharri: 1778
  • Mennieh-Dennieh: 1391

These marriages were distributed by sect as follows:

  • Akkar: 1581 unions between people of two different Muslim sects, 4751 between people of two different Christian sects and 510 between Muslims and Christians (Table 2)
  • Tripoli: 2491 unions between people of two different Muslim sects, 2239 between people of two different Christian sects and 933 between Muslims and Christians (Table 3)
  • Koura: 230 unions between people of two different Muslim sects, 3568 between people of two different Christian sects and 242 between Muslims and Christians (Table 4)
  • Batroun: 136 unions between people of two different Muslim sects, 3345 between people of two different Christian sects and 149 between Muslims and Christians (Table 5)
  • Zgharta: 37 unions between people of two different Muslim sects, 2508 between people of two different Christian sects and 253 between Muslims and Christians (Table 6)
  • Bsharri: 2 unions between people of two different Muslim sects, 1514 between people of two different Christian sects and 54 between Muslims and Christians (Table 7)
  • Mennieh- Dennieh: 252 unions between people of two different Muslim sects, 759 between people of two different Christian sects and 121 between Muslims and Christians (Table 8)
