Azouri/Al-Azouri: 610 members

This family is named after the Maronite town of Azour which lies in the Qada’a of Jezzine, 60 km from Beirut, at an altitude of 850 m above the sea level. The Azouris are also predominantly Maronite with the majority (almost half) of them residing in Azour. The Azouris are among the very few families who still settle in their town of origin. They are distributed as follows:

  • Azour: 475 members
  • Ain El-Mreisseh, Mina El-Hosn, Ashrafieh, Rmeil and Msaytbeh (Beirut): 122 members
  • Burj Hammoud (Matn): 20 members

Al-Jarmaqi: 133 members

This family name is inspired from the town of Al-Jarma, which is situated in the Qada’a of Jezzine, 75 km from Beirut at an altitude of 400 m above the sea level and has a predominant Maronite population (75%) and a minority of Sunni (20%) and Shia’a (5%). The Arsalis are a small Sunni family present in the town of Kebba in the Qada’a of Rashaya.

This family name is ascribed to the Bashwat town of Baalbeck, which is 100 km from Beirut at an altitude of 1300 m above the sea level, with a Maronite resident population. The Bashwatis are distributed over the following sects and towns:

This family is named after the town of Hbalin located in the Qada’a of Jbeil, 40 km from Beirut, at an altitude of 400 m above the sea level, with a Maronite resident population. The Hbalinis belong to the Maronite and the Greek Catholic communities:

  • Maronite: 22 members in Ashrafieh
  • Greek Catholic: 45 members in Zouk Mikhael (Kessrouan)

Chabtini/Al-Chabtini: 200 members

This family name is attributed to the Chabtin town of Batroun, which is 60 km from Beirut at an altitude of 500 m above the sea level and is home to a Maronite community. The Chabtinis are also Maronite distributed as follows:

  • 113 members in Al-Tal (Tripoli), 26 members in Al-Qebbi (Tripoli), 7 in Batroun, 7 in Ashrafieh, 15 in Al-Remmaneh (Tripoli) and 15 in Al-Mina (Tripoli)

Al-Raifouni: 35 members

The Al-Raifounis are named after the Raifoun town of Kessrouan, located 25 km from Beirut at an altitude of 1100 km above the sea level and hosting a Maronite community. The members of this family are also Maronite present in Zouk Mikael in the Qada’a of Kessrouan.

Anqouti/Al-Anqouti: 280 members

This family name is inspired from the town of Anqout situated in the Qada’a of Saida, 50 km from Beirut, at an altitude of 350 m above the sea level, with an entirely Shia’a population. The Anqoutis belong to the Shia’a community as well and are settled in the Mashghara town in the Western Beqa’a.
